Asbestos testing and removal in Boulder
Boulder follows Colorado's state asbestos rules. Here is what's specific to Boulder, then the state rules every project has to meet.
What's specific to Boulder
- Boulder County follows the state process: hire a Colorado-certified inspector, then file the state demolition notice with CDPHE ($50 plus $5 for every 1,000 square feet).
The state rules that still apply
- Test first if you'll disturb more than 32 square feet of other surfaces, 50 linear feet of pipe or one 55-gallon drum in a house — and before any demolition.
- Crumbly asbestos above those amounts is removed by a state-certified abatement contractor under a state permit ($180–$420 for a house), after a 10-working-day notice.
- Demolition always needs a state demolition notice ($50 plus $5 for every 1,000 square feet demolished).
